San Andreas strawberries excel in appearance, especially early. The plants are moderately day-neutral and display more vigor than Albion early in the season but with similar consistency and post-harvest characteristics.
Its outstanding flavor is also similar to Albion.
With good disease resistance, early high-quality fruit and low chilling requirement, it is an ideal candidate for southern California and similar arid climates. In 2005-2008, during the Watsonville trials, San Andreas’ appearance, firmness, fruit size, total and late yield scored higher than Albion or Seascape. This variety exhibits few runners, and has more energy for berry production.
