Greetings From The Fruit Belt of Southwest Michigan
Hello again -
Hello again - As we present to you our newest catalog and price list, I’d like to thank all of you for your past business. We welcome those of you who are new to our family.
We know that any successful strawberry operation must start with superior planting stock. We are devoted to providing you with these. For this reason strawberry and asparagus plants continue to be our only nursery items.
We are happy to be able to offer two new varieties of strawberries for spring of 2012. Herriot (named after author and British veterinarian James Herriot) ripens about two days before Jewel and has better root rot resistance and renovation response. Fruit is moderately large, similar to Jewel, with mild flavor and pineapple overtones similar to historic strawberry flavors. Plants are vigorous and productive.
San Andreas is another summer and fall variety that appears well suited for the Eastern United States. Good flavor with a little more of a firm crisp texture is how I would describe this variety. Plants make many runners similar to Albion, however San Andreas may not be as heat sensitive as Albion. Supply is somewhat limited.
In closing, we would like to encourage you to visit us in Southwest Michigan. If you have a farm market and are looking for produce, everything from Asparagus to Zucchini can be found within a few miles of our farm. We would be happy to refer you to quality growers in our area. Sincerely,
Thanks Again,
Bill Krohne
